someday
i'll break these shackles
i'll tear off this mask
throw away my armour
and collect you in my arms
and take you to the sea

at the sea
with the long golden sands
and the red sun over the horizon
nobody in sight, nothing but
trees swaying to the breeze
and the sound of waves
crashing onto the sand
rhythmically, relentlessly
tis there i'll bring you
to breath the fresh sea air

as far as we can see
there's only the flat horizon
of the sea
the golden light dancing
shimmering across the vast expanse
the waters reach out to us
then pull back, inviting
i'll take your hand
and fingers interlocked
we'll walk down to the edge
til our feet taste the salt
and the warmth

we'll keep going
til our knees
our waists
our chests
our necks
first touch, then is drowned
in the gentle waves
of green and blue
and light

soon, my dear, we'll
we'll sink beneath the surface
until the darkness takes us both
and the cold greets us
and we can see no more

i'll remember you as we were
sitting on the sand
watching the red orb descend
trying to take it all in
trying to feel the world
side by side, sitting
wondering where we've been
all our lives, up to now
where were we
when the scene called?
and why did we turn away?
chasing regrets and discarding chances
was not the way to live
for it brought us closer to death.

until the day we go there,
we'll remain here
burdened by our responsibilities
tied down by obligations
restricted by rules
whipped by expectations
torn by decisions
with tears of futility
running down our cheeks
dreaming of the final day
down by the sea.
